Pending approval of external funding Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research
Associate for the project “Norddeutsche Energiewende (NEW 4.0)” in accordance with Section
28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz,
HmbHG). The position commences on 1
st November 2017.


It is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13 and calls for 75 % of standard work hours per week*.
The fixed-term nature of this contract is based upon Section 2 of the Academic Fixed-Term Labor
Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed to 30th November
2020.

Responsibilities:


Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates can also pursue
independent research and further academic qualifications.


Specific Duties:


NEW 4.0 (http://www.new4-0.de/) is a joint large scale project of business, academia and politics
fundet by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Activity 5.2 will develop and
empirically validate proposals for an electricity market design and general regulatory framework
capable of transforming the energy system in northern Germany. It will take into account
the specific technical and geographical conditions in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.


The duties comprise reviewing the relevant literature, developing suitable regulatory interventions
and empirically validating them using lab and field experiments. Coordination and collaboration
with other teams in the project and writing publications targeted at the scientific
community, stakeholders and the general public are also part of the post-holders' responsibilities.


Requirements:


A university degree in a relevant field. A Master or equivalent degree in Economics or a related
disciplin are required.


Applicants must have a profound knowledge of microeconomic theory and its applications.
They have excellent analytical skills and a great interest in research, as well as a very good

command of English and interest in working in a team. A strong background in environmental,
energy or experimental economics is highly desirable.
