Associate Professor In Social Work Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences

On January 1st, 2017, Bergen University College, Sogn og Fjordane University College and Stord/Haugesund University College merged to form Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

 

With about 16,000 students, it will be one of the largest higher education institutions in Norway. A broad range of academic programmes will be offered at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels.

Associate Professor

 

Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences has two open positions as Associate Professor in social work.

 

Responsibilities

 

Both Associate Professors will contribute to the further academic development and teaching of the department's study programs in community work, social work and social education.

 

The position encompasses primarily the teaching, supervision and assessment of master’s degree students in our study program in community work. Both positions also include some teaching and student supervision at related department programs, e.g. bachelor programs in social work and social education, and administrative responsibilities.

 

The Department aims to strengthen the academic competency within the multidisciplinary area of social studies. Associate Professors are expected to proactively develop the research field through academic work, in collaboration with colleagues, in order to qualify for full professorships.     


Qualifications


Candidates shall have completed a PhD degree in social work, public health, community psychology, sociology, or other relevant discipline, with documentation of earned Associate Professor competence. Our profile has a clear orientation towards the professional work and practice within the wide area of social studies.

 

Experience from practical community work or other relevant professional work experience will be emphasized. We consider experience with management of community work projects as an advantage. Teaching skills and good ICT skills are required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, as well as English. Experience in teaching at higher educational levels and experience with e-learning and student-active learning are desired.

 

The candidate must be able to work independently and responsibly, show initiative, and collaborate well with students and colleagues. Teaching can occasionally be given in English, but the primary teaching language is Norwegian. It is a requisite that the candidate is able to teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years from employment.

 

If the candidate does not have formal pedagogical education or solid experience from teaching and supervision, required courses at HVL must be finalized within two years from the date of employment.

 

If there are no fully qualified applicants, candidates may be employed temporarily as associate professor 1011 in a qualifying position for up to 1 year, with the aim of a permanent position when qualifications are achieved. If there are no applicants who meet the required qualifications, a temporary position of Assistant professor -1008 (Høgskolelektor), may be required for a period up to 2 years.

  • Copies of selected academic publications (no more than 15)

  • A CV with a complete list of academic publications

Applicants shall indicate which publications or parts of publications shall be given special consideration in the evaluation. If the documents submitted are not in a Scandinavian language or in English, it is the applicant responsibility to submit certified translations of these.

Salary

 

The position remuneration is according to the state salary scale, code 1011 - Associate Professor (Førsteamanuensis) or code 1198 - Associate Professor (Førstelektor). From the salary will be deducted 2% deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
