The Australian Research Council (ARC) annually awards three-year Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards (DECRAs) to create opportunities for early career researchers to develop their research careers. 
 
The University of Adelaide, a member of the Go8, seeks to support an outstanding ECR applicant for a DECRA in Fields of Research under the ANZSRC FOR classification of1603(Demography), 1604(Human Geography),1606(Political Science)or 1608(Sociology), to be located in the School of Social Sciences. The School is committing resources to developing its research strengths in these areas and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President (Research) can help successful DECRA applicants through $25,000 establishment, conference travel and professional development support.
 
The School’s key research centre associated with this opportunity is the Centre for Housing, Urban and Regional Planning (https://www.adelaide.edu.au/churp/), a dynamic research intensive centre that also hosts a South Australian node of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute. This Centre builds our strong research track record and interests in housing and homelessness research, including housing economics, urban development, housing need and assistance, how vulnerable groups interact with the Australian housing market, and in disability and housing. The School also enjoys research excellence in contemporary population issues, migration, ageing, andspatial and demographic analysis.

 

The desired successful early career researchers would have expertise that aligns with these areas, and will work with Centre team members who lead a number of externally funded research projects in the above areas. To be eligible for a DECRA a candidate must at the closing time of submission of proposals have been awarded a PhD on or after 1 March 2013 (or longer if combined with periods of significant career interruption). See ARC Funding Rules and FAQs for detailed information. The ARC DECRA program is highly competitive and support from our institution provides no guarantee of application success. The University is under no obligation under this initiative to employ an individual if they are not successful in their application for a DECRA.
