The Department of Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the Social Work program (MSW and BSW degrees) at the rank of Assistant Professor with a role assignment of 40% teaching, 50% research and 10% service.  This is a nine-month position which will begin in August 2018. The position is located at the USU flagship campus in Logan, Utah. We seek applications from individuals with expertise related to macro social work with a focus on health, wellness and/or prevention.

1) Teach graduate and undergraduate social work courses linked to the requested areas of expertise (macro practice, health, wellness and/or prevention) and to departmental needs.

2) Advise undergraduate and graduate students.

3) Engage in research and scholarship.

4) Secure external funding to support research activities.

5) Provide service to the department, college, and the social work profession.

Academic Setting:  The Social Work Program offers CSWE-accredited bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a dynamic interdisciplinary department. Utah State University is a land-grant university founded in 1888. The university is a Carnegie Doctoral Extensive research institution with approximately 29,000 students (26,000 undergraduates and 3,000 graduate students) from all 50 states and 80 foreign countries. Minimum Qualifications

1) An MSW from a CSWE-accredited social work program.

2) Two years post-MSW practice experience.

3) An earned doctorate (PhD or DSW) in social work or closely related field at the time of appointment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

1) Teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels.

2) Teaching experience with online and distance education technology.

3) Demonstrated record of scholarly activity.

4) Demonstrated capacity for securing external funding.

5) Expertise regarding macro social work, particularly in the areas of health, wellness, and/or prevention.

Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Comprehend complex, hard-to-understand concepts.

Apply knowledge of advanced mathematical and statistical techniques such as differential and integral calculus, factor analysis, and probability determination, or work with a wide variety of theoretical mathematical concepts and make original applications of mathematical procedures, as in empirical and differential equations.
Expression of a level comparable to 5, plus highest order verbal skills such as ability to lecture to large groups, ability to speak on complex issues without prepared notes.

Comprehensive and expression of a level comparable to 5, plus highest order of composition skills such as ability to do this as primary function of the job, to draft and edit publication-quality papers, to prepare highly complex documents such as wills and contracts. May involve a large volume of such composition.
Minimal travel required – ability to travel infrequently (i.e., annually) for activities such as developmental sessions at a centralized training center.
