DESCRIPTION

The University of California, Santa Barbara Department of Political Science seeks a scholar in political methodology for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor effective July 1, 2018. We welcome scholars working either in methods or applied methods within any of the traditional subfields of political science. We particularly welcome applications from scholars whose methodological work focuses on new cutting-edge techniques in either causal inference; experimental or quasi-experimental methods; or big data. We also welcome applications from those whose applied interests relate to the department’s strong interdisciplinary foci in the studies of identity or the environment. The successful candidate must be qualified to teach core graduate seminars in the department's methodology sequence. The successful candidate is also expected to deepen the department’s connection to the methods community in political science, and to foster cross-disciplinary links around quantitative methods, such as through contributing to the university’s Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences doctoral emphasis. Applicants should have completed the Ph.D. by the appointment date.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.

Completed applications received by September 20, 2017 will receive primary consideration, but the position will remain open until filled. Applications must include a curriculum vitae, a writing sample, teaching evaluations (or other evidence of teaching effectiveness), and three letters from academic references.
