The Department of Political Science at Uppsala University is one of the leading political science institutions in the Nordic region. It employs about 100 staffed teachers, researchers, doctoral students and administrative staff. The activities consist mainly of education at the undergraduate and advanced level and in postgraduate studies in political science and development studies. The teaching is conducted in English at masters level and in English and Swedish at the candidate level. Employment Period : Employment as Assistant Lecturer may be held for a maximum of four years with the opportunity to be promoted to the University Lecturer.

 

Tasks: Research and teaching in political science. Teaching includes course responsibility, supervision and course management. The employment may also include administrative duties. The proportion of teaching in the service is expected to reach a maximum of 50 percent .

 

Eligibility Requirements: Qualifying to be employed as Assistant University Lecturer is the one who has obtained a doctorate or has obtained the corresponding academic qualifications and meets the requirements for educational skill. Mainly, the applicant in question has obtained a doctorate or has obtained equivalent competence no more than seven years before the end of the application period. The applicant should have completed the relevant relevant tertiary education, comprising five weeks, or deemed to have equivalent knowledge.

 

According to Uppsala University's employment scheme, as a general qualification requirement for teachers, the personal qualities required to fulfill the job are well.

 

Qualifications are required to teach Swedish and English. Those who at the beginning of the employment only master one of these languages should be able to teach the other within two years at the latest.

 

Assessment criteria: When selecting among qualified applicants, particular importance will be attached to scientific skill. With reference to the nature of the employment of employment, the applicants' scientific and educational qualifications should be assessed in particular in qualitative terms. A quantitative advantage of an applicant, which can be explained by the fact that an applicant has been active for a long time, should therefore not be decisive.

 

Scientific proficiency: When assessing the scientific skill, particular emphasis will be placed on research studies in political science . In assessing scientific skill, scientific quality shall be taken into account first and foremost. The scope of research, especially in terms of depth and breadth, is to be taken into account. Documented research of high international quality, eg by publishing in recognized international scientific journals, is meritorious.

 

Educational skills: Equal care will be devoted to the examination of the educational skill of the scientific. This should be well documented to facilitate the assessment of the skill. Educational skills relate to education and teaching qualification, and in particular educational quality will be taken into account. Even scope, both width and depth, should be taken into account.

 

Administrative and other skills are important for the employment and will be given weight. Administrative skills are shown, inter alia, by the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work effectively and for the purpose, and to set and respect schedules. Furthermore, importance will be attached to the ability to interact both internally and with the surrounding community.

 

In addition, particular importance will be attached to the applicant's ability to contribute to future development of both research and education.

 

The merits must be documented so that both quality and scope can be assessed.

 

When the university is to hire new teachers, applicants should be selected as following a qualitative overall assessment of skills and skill are deemed to be the best conditions for implementing and developing current tasks and contributing to a positive development of the business.
