We are looking for one for the Research Group Work, Organization and Social Dialogue

 

HIVA - Research Institute for Work and Society is a multidisciplinary research institute of KU Leuven. We are a team of about 70 employees. Bringing together various disciplines under one roof and our specialization in policy-oriented research on work and society give HIVA a unique position within KU Leuven and beyond. Scientific quality and social relevance prevail for us. The research group 'Work, Organization and Social Dialogue' focuses on how work is organized and what the effects are on the chances of qualitative and sustainable jobs. Central questions in the research include: How does the work organization change in companies, institutions and administrations? How do labor tasks, wages and working conditions evolve, health and safety and employee participation? What personnel policy is being pursued? How can the quality of work be improved through participation and consultation, in particular for vulnerable employee groups? These themes are treated interdisciplinary and with a mix of research methods.

Project

 

As a doctoral fellow you will work on a multidisciplinary research on the impact of new technologies. The project will develop a scientific framework to address critical questions regarding the impact of new technologies on organizations, workplaces, quality of work, employee participation and skills. The project focuses on acquiring insights into the relationship between technology development, organizational concepts, employment relationships and industrial innovation policy. This research will be carried out by a group of doctoral students and senior researchers from sociology, economics and mechanics.The research on HIVA focuses on different forms of direct and representative participation of employees in innovation. You will work out the research design, collect data from employees and various types of stakeholders with both quantitative and qualitative research methods and analyze these data. You will report on the results of the research at scientific conferences and in international journals, resulting in a PhD. You also contribute to the valorisation of the research through various other forms of communication to clients, stakeholders and other stakeholders in the research.

 

Profile

  • You have a master's degree (or equivalent) in human sciences, with a preference for the social sciences, and have obtained excellent study results. Knowledge about labor relations and participation is a strong plus point.
  • You have a strong interest in social science research.
  • You have a very good knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and you are prepared to further develop your skills.
  • Your analytical and synthesising skills are well developed.
  • You make contacts easily and work well with others. You are strong in organizational terms and work systematically.
  • You are strongly motivated to fill in a creative doctoral project, work it out and complete it on time.
  • You have good communication skills in Dutch and English, both written and oral, and you can attune to various target groups.
