Associate Professor in Social Didactics

 

At the University of Agder there is a vacant 100% position as associate professor in social science didactics related to teacher education at the Faculty of Social Sciences. The place of work is Kristiansand.


The Faculty of Social Sciences currently has the professional and administrative responsibility for social studies in kindergarten teacher education (BLU), elementary school teacher education (GLU 1-7 and GLU 5-10), Lecturer 8-13 and Academic Didactics in Social Sciences (PPU). It is currently about 300 students associated with teacher education at the faculty, a number that is expected to increase over time.

 

Description of the position

 

Social science is defined here by the elementary school subjects, such as social sciences, geography and history. It is primarily a social science / social science didactic student in the position. The subject will be given special responsibility for teaching and research within the social sciences areas of social science didactics. For the position, it is required to assess the role of social science at school and how the subject can be justified and made interesting for the students. The link between social science theory and its practical application in a teaching context will be the professional field of work of the position. The teacher education at the faculty is responsible for social science didactic teaching subjects at the master's level in both GLU 5-10 and lecturers 8-13. Guidance of master students and PhD fellows must be considered.

 

The research activity associated with social science didactics in teacher education is organized in a separate research group and is particularly related to democracy, citizenship and diversity in school in general and in social studies in particular. The candidate will become a part of the academic community at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, and it is assumed that he supports the group's academic efforts in research and development and in the development of the academic community as a whole.

 

Qualifications and terms

 

The person appointed in the position must be able to document professional qualifications within essential parts of the subject area. Scientific competence is required at the minimum doctoral level in social sciences. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to initiate and lead research and development work. Expertise in quantitative research methods is an advantage. Personal fitness will be given great weight.

 

Criteria for employment in the position are stated in the Regulations on employment and promotion in teaching and research positions

 

The assessment will also emphasize documented pedagogical competence, including educational education, the form of presentation in the scientific work, experience with student guidance and teaching, as well as educational background of another kind. Quality and width will be considered. Experience from primary and secondary school education is an advantage. Documented relevant practical-pedagogical competence is required on the basis of education or instruction and guidance. Applicants who, upon appointment, can not document such basic competence must obtain this within two years, possibly undergoing the UiA's course in university education.

 

Current candidates will be invited for interview and trial lecture. References will also be obtained after further agreement with the applicant.

 

The candidate must master the Norwegian language both written and oral, alternatively a Scandinavian language, and English. The language of instruction is Norwegian, but some instruction in English may also be applicable.

The position is placed in the state wage regulation, salary plan 17,510, code 1011 associate professorship, kr. 537,700 - 673,800. For highly qualified applicants, higher pay can be considered. From the salary, statutory deposits are deducted from the National Pension Fund.
