The School of Social Sciences is recruiting a Research Associate to work on the ESRC-funded project ‘The experience of 'ageing in place' over time: a longitudinal perspective’. The project is run by Dr Camilla Lewis, Dr Vanessa May and Dr Tine Buffel. The project will be based at the department of Sociology in association with the Morgan Centre for Research into Everyday Lives and the Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research on Ageing (MICRA). This project seeks to explore the issue of ageing in place through qualitative longitudinal research, both in the development of a conceptual framework for understanding ageing in place and over time in urban settings, and in providing the knowledge necessary for addressing a priority area in social policy on health and social care.

The project will draw on qualitative longitudinal research techniques. You will need to display a keen interest in longitudinal research methods and analysing qualitative interviews. Applications are particularly welcome from those with research expertise in ageing research.

This post is likely to appeal to those with a background in Sociology, Anthropology, Urban Studies, Social Policy, Gerontology or Social Care.

You will work directly with the Principal Investigator, Dr Camilla Lewis and will be educated to postgraduate level or equivalent.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as black and minority ethnic/male candidates are currently under-represented at this level in this area, we would particularly welcome applications from BME/male candidates. All appointments will be made on merit.
