Lecturer in Management Accounting (Teaching & Research)

Grade 8 (£39,324 - £46,924)

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to enhance the excellence in teaching and research in the area of Management Accounting within the University of Dundee School of Business (UDSB), an integral and growing part of the wider School of Social Sciences. Preference will be given to candidates who have an interest in accounting for decision making, contemporary issues in accounting and/or global management accounting practices. The successful candidate would be expected to take an active role in developing and teaching on our successful taught postgraduate (TPG) Masters of Professional Accounting programmes, as well as supporting our undergraduate (UG) teaching in this and cognate areas developed in the future. In addition to teaching and administrative duties the successful candidate will undertake excellent research with demonstrable impact. Pursuit of external grant funding and regularly publishing research papers in top ranked journals are essential as is considered strategy for knowledge exchange and wider engagement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the research activities of Accounting and Finance at the highest level and publish excellent outputs (3-4*) in leading journals and international conferences.
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange with other academic or industrial partners
  • Support the full economic cost of research by generating grant income and/or industrial funding
  • Supervise research students

Develop and deliver both TPG and UG modules in both theoretical and practical settings, wherein expertise in quantitative and econometric methods would be beneficial.

Use innovative methods to deliver high quality and effective teaching at all levels in TPG programmes to equip students with the skills, attributes and experience required for their future careers.

Supervise multi-disciplinary research projects at both UG and TPG level, ensuring that each student receives an outstanding research experience.

Carry out a range of administrative tasks within the school and provide academic support to students.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others and an effective team member.


  • You will be expected to travel on occasional University business to support the recruitment and/or partnership activities.

Maintain a personal development programme as agreed with academic line manager.


- First or Master’s degree in accounting, and a PhD in a relevant or closely aligned areas of study

- Member or Fellowship of globally recognised Professional Bodies, e.g., ACCA, CIMA, etc

- Evidence of excellence in University learning and teaching, including teaching management accounting for decision making purposes, contemporary issues in professional accounting.

- Experience of designing challenging and relevant assessments along with timely feedback

- Experience of supervising UG and TPG student projects

- Well formulated research strategy, inclusive of developing externally-funded research proposals

- Track record of published outputs (e.g. journals) consistent with international excellence (3-4*)

- Desire to supervisor doctoral candidates, including PhD, DBA and ProfDoc

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Willingness to engage with enterprise and outreach activities

- Ability to prioritise and balance competing demands

- Ability to engage and travel in occasional overseas recruitment activities


- Experience of curriculum development and review

- Experience of successful international recruitment

- Experience of Public Engagement

- Membership of the Higher Education Academy
