Lecturer in International Business (Teaching & Research)

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to enhance the excellence in teaching and research in International Business within the School of Social Sciences and the University Of Dundee School Of Business. Preference will be given to candidates who have an interest in international business in global contexts and international entrepreneurship. The successful candidate would be expected to take an active role in the teaching of our successful post graduate programmes of study as well as support our UG teaching, and any new programmes we will develop in the field. In addition to teaching and administrative duties the successful candidate will undertake excellent research with demonstrable impact. Pursuit of external grant funding and regularly publishing research papers in top ranked journals are essential along with a strategy for knowledge exchange.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the research activities in Business, International Business and or Economics at the highest level (REF 3-4*) – publish in high quality research journals and present work at international conferences
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange with other academic or industrial partners
  • Support the full economic cost of research by generating grant income and/or industrial funding
  • Supervise research students
  • the development and delivery of both UG and PG modules in both theoretical and practical settings, in particular expertise in quantitative and econometric methods would be beneficial
  • use innovative teaching methods to deliver high quality and effective teaching at all levels in taught postgraduate courses to equip students with the skills, attributes and experience required for their future careers.
  • supervise multi-disciplinary research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, ensuring that each student receives an outstanding research experience.
  • carry out a range of administrative tasks within the school and provide academic support to students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others and an effective team member.
  • You will be expected to travel on occasional University business to support the recruitment and/or partnership activities
  • maintain a personal development programme as agreed with academic line manager.

Person Specification


- First or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline allied to business and economics

- PhD in a relevant subject (or nearing completion) in international business or closely aligned areas of study such as strategy and international economics and trade.

- Clear evidence of excellence in University learning and teaching

- Experience of setting, marking, assessing work and examinations and providing feedback to students

- Experience of supervision of undergraduate and/or taught postgraduate student projects

- Develop research objectives, project and proposals

- Conduct individual or collaborative research projects

- Ability to identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Evidence of ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others

- Evidence of effective team membership

- Ability to prioritise and balance competing demands  

- Ability to engage and travel in occasional overseas recruitment activities


- Experience of curriculum development and review

- Experience of successful international recruitment

- Experience of Public Engagement

- Membership of the Higher Education Academy
