We are seeking an exceptional candidate to enhance the excellence in teaching and research in the area of Accounting within the School of Social Sciences and the University of Dundee School of Business. Preference will be given to candidates who have an interest in accounting for decision making, financial reporting, contemporary issues in accounting and or global management accounting practices. The successful candidate would be expected to take an active role in the teaching of our successful post graduate Masters of Professional Accounting programme of study as well as support our UG teaching, and any new programmes we will develop in the field. In addition to teaching and administrative duties the successful candidate will undertake excellent research with demonstrable impact. Pursuit of external grant funding and regularly publishing research papers in top ranked journals are essential along with a strategy for knowledge exchange.


Summary of Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Person Specification


- First or Master’s degree in accounting

- PhD in a relevant subject (or nearing completion) in Accounting or closely aligned areas of study

- Clear evidence of excellence in University learning and teaching

- Experience of teaching accounting for decision making purposes, contemporary issues in professional accounting, financial reporting

- Experience of setting, marking, assessing work and examinations and providing feedback to students

- Experience of supervision of undergraduate and/or taught postgraduate student projects

- Develop research objectives, project and proposals

- Conduct individual or collaborative research projects

- Ability to identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Evidence of ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others

- Evidence of effective team membership

- Ability to prioritise and balance competing demands

- Ability to engage and travel in occasional overseas recruitment activities


- Member or Fellowship of one of the world’s leading accounting professional bodies for example ACCA, CIMA, etc.

- Experience of curriculum development and review

- Experience of successful international recruitment

- Experience of Public Engagement

- Membership of the Higher Education Academy
