Social Sciences - Replacement Faculty Position


The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises nine departments, schools and institutes, which offer undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral programs in both English and French. With its 10,000 students, 260 full-time professors, and wide array of programs and research centres, the Faculty of Social Sciences plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Its graduate students are supervised by excellent researchers and undertake cutting-edge research in the Faculty’s Master’s and Ph.D. programs.


The Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies is accepting applications for one replacement professor position.  We are looking for candidates with expertise and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Transnational feminisms and globalization
  • Indigenous Feminisms
  • Critical Race Feminisms
  • Black Feminisms
  • Trans* studies
  • Queer and Sexuality Studies
  • Feminist Disability studies
  • Racial Violence
  • Social Justice or Equity Studies
  • Feminist Methodology
  • Feminist and Queer Theories



  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, in English
  • Participating in academic and administrative activities
  • Other activities as specified in the collective agreement



  • Hold a Ph.D. in Feminist and Gender Studies or related field. Candidates who are close to completing a Ph.D. could be considered;
  • Demonstrate excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching
  • Possess a strong publication and research track record in the field.



The University of Ottawa is a bilingual institution, and replacement professors in the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies must be passively bilingual (French and English).  Active bilingualism will be considered an asset.


Terms and Salary

This one year contract will begin on July 1st, 2018 and end June 30th , 2019 and is non-renewable.


Salary scale for Replacement professors starts at $81,318 (for a full-time teaching workload).
