Job Description

The Department of Sociology announces the opening of a tenured faculty position in Sociology of Cooperation. The Department is looking for a professor to teach classes, to conduct research and to take on the functions of Chairholder of a Teaching Leadership Chair (TLC) on the sociology of cooperation.

The TLC Chairholder will:

  • create new teaching activities in Sociology of cooperation, its institutionalization and cooperativism;
  • offer three teaching activities in sociology (e.g. classes, seminars, summer classes) per year in this field;
  • supervise the research of master’s and doctoral students on the Sociology of cooperation;
  • develop research activities regarding Sociology of cooperation;
  • facilitate scientific animation and knowledge transfer activities;
  • promote the analysis and reflective thinking on cooperation and cooperativism among students and the general public.


At the end of his/her mandate with the TLC, the candidate will also be called upon to contribute to the general teachings in Sociology at the three graduate and postgraduate levels.


The successful candidate will be hired at Laval University in a regular professorship position from the date of employment.

Selection criterias


  • Completed PhD in Sociology or in a relevant discipline in line with the objectives of the TLC;
  • Knowledge in sociology in the field of cooperativism, the cooperative model, cooperative businesses, the cooperative movement and its organizations in Quebec, Canada and abroad;
  • Knowledge in economic sociology relevant to the study of cooperative businesses;
  • Ability to develop programming of new teaching, research, scientific animation and knowledge transfer activities that meet the objectives of the TLC;
  • Ability to teach Sociology;
  • Ability to supervise Sociology students through their sociological education;
  • Strong publication record and achievements in research in relation to the concerned field;
  • University teaching experience will be considered an asset;
  • Ability to teach in French.

Salary according to the current collective agreement.
