Professor / Associate Professor in Social Work or Child Welfare


At the University of Agder, 1-2 permanent 100% positions are appointed as professor / associate professor in social work or child welfare related to the Department of Sociology and Social Work, Faculty of Social Sciences. The place of work is Kristiansand.


At the Faculty of Social Sciences it is approx. 75 added and approx. 1,500 students. The faculty has four institutes: Department of Political Science and Management, Department of Global Development and Social Planning, Department of Information Systems and the Department of Sociology and Social Work.


Description of the position


We apply for PhD students preferably in social work or in areas relevant to child welfare and social work. If the applicant does not have a doctorate in social work, the applicant should be able to document child welfare or social work in the bachelor or master's degree profession or have documented experience of practice or research in child welfare or social work.


The candidate is expected to actively contribute to strengthening research in one or more of the research areas of the institute, including areas relevant to child welfare and / or social work.


The institute offers bachelor and master's degree in social work, and is developing a corresponding study program in child welfare. The candidate will be assigned his / her duties in connection with these study offers, and must assume education at both bachelor and master's level. The additive may further contribute to the long-term development of the research community, and is also expected to contribute to the provision of external research funds to the Institute.


Qualifications and terms


Criteria for employment in the position are stated in the Regulations on employment and promotion in teaching and research positions


Documented relevant practical-pedagogical competence is required on the basis of education or instruction and guidance. Applicants who, upon appointment, can not document such basic competence must obtain this within two years, possibly undergoing the UiA's course in university education.


In assessing applicants, emphasis will also be placed on collaborative skills, personal fitness and professional competence, including interest in and competence to further education and research in social work and / or child welfare. It is an advantage if the applicant has practice from child welfare or social work as a field of work. In the ranking of applicants, emphasis will be placed on the applicants' expertise and specialization in relation to the Institute's needs.


The language of instruction is usually Norwegian, but teaching in English will also be required. The University of Agder offers Norwegian courses for foreign newcomers who do not master Norwegian, and it is facilitated for the implementation of this. Permanent employees are expected to be able to Norwegian within two years and that this is documented by passing the mountain test with 450 points.


Current candidates will be invited for interview and trial lecture. References will also be obtained after further agreement with the applicant.


If there are no applicants who are clearly eligible for permanent appointment as a professor or associate professor, it may be necessary to apply for a temporary appointment in a qualifying engagement. In this connection, reference is made to Section 6-5 (1) of the University and Higher Education Act. In such cases, the appointing authority determines the duration of the appointment period, which shall not exceed three years. Applicants must state whether they apply for such qualifying engagement and attach a progress plan showing how far the applicant is in the PhD course and a schedule for completing the PhD. and any other research projects. After a qualifying engagement, the applicant will be considered for permanent appointment according to the following criteria: formal academic qualifications in accordance with this announcement, collaborative ability, educational qualifications,

The position is placed in the state wage regulation plan 17,510, code 1013 professor, kr. 686,900 - 815,800, code 1011 associate professor, kr. 537,700 - 673,800. For highly qualified applicants, higher pay can be considered. From the salary, statutory deposits are deducted from the National Pension Fund.
