DESCRIPTION

 

The UCLA Department of Social Welfare in the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin School of Public Affairs invites applications for a tenured faculty position at the Senior Associate or Full Professor rank, with an expected start date of July 1, 2019. We seek to hire a scholar who leads the field in the area of child and family well-being. Specific area of expertise is open and may include child welfare; trauma in childhood or across the lifespan; child, family, or school-focused interventions; or child and family mental health. The successful candidate will be considered for the endowed Marjorie Crump Chair in Social Welfare, a five-year appointment that provides research funding and is reserved for a distinguished scholar who conducts cutting- edge and innovative research to address issues facing society.

 

UCLA is consistently ranked among the top research universities across the nation and around the world. The Department of Social Welfare is the only social work program in Southern California housed in a major public research university, and is advantageously situated in an interdisciplinary school of public affairs along with highly ranked departments of Urban Planning and Public Policy. We are one of the nation’s most interdisciplinary diverse departments of social welfare, and were recently ranked third in scholarly impact among all 76 doctoral degree granting social work/social welfare programs. Both the Department and Luskin School are experiencing dynamic growth. In addition, our Department has a 65-year tradition of educating and serving ethnically and culturally diverse urban populations.


We seek an individual to join our department who has: 


• A demonstrated track record of successfully disseminating research with substantial impact in social welfare.
• A successful record of securing extramural funding.
• A strong record of teaching at any level and mentoring at the doctoral level.



• A deep understanding of diversity and social justice issues embedded in teaching, research, and mentoring.
• A commitment to collaborative relationships across the Department, School, and University.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, commitment to mentoring across the academic ladder, and experience with departmental and university citizenship.

 

Basic Qualifications: To be considered, applicants must have a PhD in Social Work/Social Welfare or a related field, and a MSW degree. 


Additional/Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate must have the ability to meet the qualifications of Associate Professor or Professor at UCLA. The successful candidate will have a national and/or international reputation for high impact, funded scholarship in the area of child and family well-being, contribute expertise on vulnerable and at-risk children and families, and provide strategic and academic leadership to the Department and the Luskin School of Public Affairs.
