About the role

  • $105,108-$123,908 plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed -term until Dec 2022
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)


The Lecturer in Ethics will teach primarily ethics, across all levels of the undergraduate philosophy curriculum. The successful candidate should also be able to contribute to some or all of the School’s other teaching needs in philosophy, which include the history of philosophy and core courses in the PPE degree. As this is a combined teaching/research position, the post-holder will contribute to UNSW’s research profile through the production of high-quality research; the post-holder’s specialist area of research could be any area of ethics, including historical approaches. 


Specific responsibilities for this role include:  

• Preparing and conducting lectures, tutorials, and/or seminars; marking and assessment; coordinating courses

• Developing course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior academics.

• Consultation with students.

• Supervision of honours projects in the philosophy major, as appropriate.

• Conducting research.

• Performing a range of administrative functions, the majority of which relate to the subjects in which the academic teaches.

• Attending discipline and School meetings, and/or being a member of committees.

• Cooperating with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and taking all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself and others
