Responsibilities

The Sociology Department at Radboud University seeks an Assistant Professor (tenured) to further strengthen its educational programme and its highly reputed research. Your educational responsibilities will be to coordinate and teach at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels of the Sociology educational programme, with an emphasis on methodological topics. The courses that will be coordinated by you include “Learning Project 1 (BA1)” and “Policy Research in Theory and Practice (MA)”. 


  
Furthermore, you will probably also teach in the field of your research expertise. Possible topics on your research agenda are not restricted to a one particular domain. Your research agenda may refer to methodology, immigration and integration issues, criminology, political sociology, family sociology, or labour market and educational sociology. The emphasis in this position will be on the execution of high-quality research that aligns with the research programme of the Sociology Department with its focus on issues of inequality and social cohesion. You will especially be expected to have expertise in performing advanced statistical techniques in research. 



You will be expected to:

  • perform and coordinate excellent teaching (50%);

  • perform and publish top-quality research (50%);

  • apply for external funding by submitting research proposals;

  • collaborate with researchers from the Sociology department and with external scholars;

  • be an inspiring member of our staff with excellent communication skills.

Faculty of Social Sciences 
The position will be embedded in the Sociology department of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The research in this position will fall under the research programme of the Radboud Social Cultural Research Institute (RSCR). The Faculty of Social Sciences is one of largest faculties at Radboud University. The faculty’s ambition is to become one of the top social science institutes in Europe, providing high-quality research and study programmes that rank among the best in the Netherlands.

 

What we expect from you

  • a PhD degree in sociology, or an associated social science field (statistics, political science, educational sciences, communication sciences);

  • expertise in teaching at an academic level;

  • a university teaching qualification (BKO) or the willingness to acquire such a certificate;

  • an excellent track record in scientific research, as evidenced by publications in international academic journals;

  • good social, communication and organisational skills;

  • knowledge of, and familiarity with, advanced research methods and statistical techniques;

  • (preferably) experience in the acquisition of external funding;

  • an excellent command of written and spoken English;

  • a very good command of Dutch or the willingness to learn Dutch in two years.

What we have to offer

  • employment: 0.8 - 1.0 FTE;

  • a maximum gross monthly salary of € 5,513 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 12);

  • the salary is dependent on your level of education and work experience;

  • in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus;

  • term of contract: upon positive evaluation after 2 years: tenured position;

  • classification in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO): Assistant Professor, Level 1;

  • you will be able to make use of our Dual Career Service where our Dual Career Officer will assist with family related support, such as child care, and help your partner prepare for the local labour market and with finding an occupation.
