Applications are invited for a fully funded 3 year postdoctoral Research Associate in the Manufacturing Group for the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering in The University of Manchester.  This post is part of a large collaborative project on New Industrial Systems to realize the vision for “Manufacturing Immortality”. The project is collaborative and multidisciplinary and at the interface of the physical and life sciences. The aim of this project is to develop the scientific base and vision for evolvable bio-hybrid systems (materials, devices, etc.) that possess the inherent capacity to autonomously sense and repair damage, so called immortal products. You will lead the additive manufacturing science for non-bio materials and contribute to the research and formulation of new business models for immortal products and social/environmental impact assessment.


You will work closely with the other 6 collaborating universities (and with biologists, computer and material scientists), industrial partners and academic investigators to deliver project outcomes on time.


You should have proven ability to work independently, possess strong mathematical and data analysis skills, and be able to present results in an effective manner.  You should be able to interact effectively with researchers from other disciplines and industrial partners. Good written and oral communication skills are essential.


The post will be available for a period of 24 months, with a possibility of further 3 months extension.
