The Role:

We seek an exceptional candidate to undertake health and human services research. Working jointly within the Department of Economics and the Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy - MUCHE, the Professor of Health Economics will have the unique opportunity to lead health economic research both independently and collaboratively across Macquarie University.

 

About You

You will be an intellectual leader in health economics, with extensive experience working with government and non-government organisations and contributing to public policy debates. To be successful in this role, you will have a well-articulated research agenda, a record of high-quality publications and the proven ability to work effectively with a diverse research and department team. You will be responsible for expanding research output, developing leadership capabilities, teaching in related courses, mentoring and external engagement activities within MUCHE and the Department of Economics.

The Department of Economics is one of the largest Economics Departments in Australia, our researchers have a wealth of international experience gained at some of the world’s most prestigious universities, businesses and government organisations. With a long tradition of research excellence in many subfields in Economics, our current research strengths cover macroeconomics and financial economics, applied econometrics, health economics, behavioural economics, development economics and ecological economics. We have real strengths in the economics and policy making that relate to the economies of South East Asia.

 

Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy (MUCHE) is a research centre established within the Faculty of Business and Economics as a strategic initiative to undertake innovative research on health, ageing and human services. Its vision is to create a world where decision makers are empowered with applied, trusted and influential research into health and human services policy and systems. MUCHE undertakes research funded by competitive academic grants, and research funded by government and non-government organisations. It undertakes policy analysis and economic evaluation across five strategic areas, including integrated care, mental health, health technology, disability and aged care.

 

The Faculty of Business and Economics is on an exciting journey and aspires to be recognised as a leading global centre of business education and research. Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Internationally recognised as an expert in own subject area that involves active engagement with local and global communities.
  • Has successfully obtained competitive grant funding independently and maintained a sustainable research funding stream.
  • Extensive track record of published articles in high quality refereed journals, other media forums, and at international conferences.
  • Demonstrated leadership in health economics research, including extensive domestic and international academic networks.
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary research teams, including non-academics and social scientists.
  • Ability to efficiently manage research contracts, including planning, coordinating, managing risks, and delivering research.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to the development of undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the highest quality.
  • Superior skills in mentoring and supervising students, post-doctoral researchers, and EMC researchers.
  • Willingness to work within a team environment towards shared objectives, including contributing to the administration and management of MUCHE.

 

Desirable selection criteria:

  • Experience working with government and non-government organisations.
  • Membership of academic and government committees.
  • Has a thorough understanding of health economics in the broader Asia-Pacific region.
