The Position

The Master of International Development is a dynamic and highly successful program which seeks to develop postgraduate students’ theoretical and practical skills in the development field.  A key feature of the program is the involvement of various practitioners from the development sector in teaching delivery, in addition to academic staff. The Department of Social Inquiry, where this position is located, sits within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe University which has an international reputation for the quality of its teaching and research programs.

 

We are seeking to appoint a full time, three year fixed term teaching focused lecturer in International Development. The successful applicant will be required to teach a number of core units in the Master of International Development, contribute to the curriculum, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, assist the course co-ordinator with administrative duties when required, and contribute to the promotion of Development Studies at La Trobe University.

 

A Level B teaching focused academic is expected to participate regularly in gathering and monitoring of student feedback through Student Feedback on teaching surveys and will normally receive high teaching results relative to their peers. At least once a year they will also undertake to have their teaching peer-reviewed as part of a commitment to scholarly teaching practice

 

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Completion of a relevant PhD

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, curriculum development and subject coordination

  • Demonstrated record of achievement in Development Studies in terms of skills, knowledge, expertise and networks.

 

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, or co-supervise, honors and postgraduate students.

  • Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or similar evidence of professional preparation for, and continuous professional development in, higher education teaching.

  • Demonstrated administrative capacities.

 

The appointee is required to commence in this role in mid-2019
