The Department of Religious Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at New York University invites applications for an appointment as an Assistant Professor on the tenure track in Buddhist Studies. The appointment will begin September 1, 2021, subject to administrative and budgetary approval.  

We seek applicants whose area of empirical research lies in East Asian Buddhisms: Chinese, Japanese, Korean and/or Tibetan.  The ideal candidate will combine a grasp of the classical textual tradition with a serious engagement of the theoretical study of religion. Interest in intersections of religion with post-coloniality, race, gender, sexuality, or national identity is especially welcome.  The candidate should be prepared to teach Theories and Methods in the Study of Religion, as well as three other courses per year, the nature of which will in part depend upon their specialty.  Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching and to participating in the Department's scholarly activities.  To learn more about the Department of Religious Studies please visit our website at http://religiousstudies.as.nyu.edu.
