Position overview

The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP) leads intellectual engagement with the Asia-Pacific region through research, teaching and contributions to public debate, and seeks to set the international standard for scholarship concerning the region.

The School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) is one of four Schools in CAP. RegNet undertakes research and education in governance and regulation associated with major social and environmental issues, and proactively engages in policy debates in Australia, the Asia Pacific region and internationally.  Our work is based on principles of social justice, sustainability and human wellbeing. RegNet harnesses deep disciplinary expertise alongside a world renowned approach to interdisciplinarity – drawing critically upon theory and methodologies from a range of fields including anthropology, criminology, economics, international relations, law, philosophy, political science, psychology, public administration, public health, and sociology. Currently we work in the following thematic areas: Climate, Energy & the Environment; Law, Justice and Human Rights; Society, Safety & Health; Trade, Investment & Intellectual Property. We welcome new research directions.

The Braithwaite Research Fellow/Fellow is established in honour of RegNet founders Professors John and Valerie Braithwaite. Both spent many years heading diverse research groups at the ANU, with interests including restorative justice, tax system integrity, corporate crime, child protection, responsive regulation, regulatory theory, trust and hope in democracy and international peacebuilding.

The Braithwaite Research Fellow/Fellow will be a rising star in the area of governance and regulation and undertake acclaimed innovative research in regulation and governance. The research is not restricted to the areas where Valerie and John have worked and may be taken up in any area of regulation and governance. While this is a research intensive position, the Research Fellow/Fellow will engage across the School’s education programs. The Fellow/Research Fellow will report to the School Director, will work in close partnership with academics across the School and will maintain close links with other academic experts in related fields.

The successful candidate will be an excellent researcher, innovative teacher and will welcome opportunities to contribute to the School.

This position will be a tenure track appointment to engage a world-class academic for an initial period of seven years, with the option of renewal or conversion at the end of the initial employment agreement.
