About the position

The Faculty of Humanities announces up to 5 doctoral positions. The positions are 3-year-olds without a job or 4-year-olds with 25% work, depending on the institute's needs.


One of the positions is earmarked for the PhD program in artistic development. The applications will be considered together. Applicants from all disciplines at the Faculty of Humanities are invited to apply.


The candidate who is hired undertakes to complete the PhD study within the employment period.


The PhD program at the Faculty of Humanities is organized in the following program within the scientific PhD degree: aesthetic subjects, history and cultural sciences, linguistics and interdisciplinary cultural studies, as well as audiovisual media (joint degree with the Inland University College). In addition, the faculty is the host faculty for the interdisciplinary PhD program in artistic development work leading up to the degree of PhD. in artistic development work. Applications within this program must describe their association with one of the faculty's environment in artistic development work. eligibility Requirements
Master's degree with a weighted average grade over the last two years of study at B or better compared with NTNU's grading scale (cf. §6-1 in regulations for PhD at NTNU). For Artistic PhD similar artistic expertise can also be assessed. 
Strong professional and / or artistic background

The applicant shall explain how the project can be related to the faculty's established academic environment, including relevant research groups. Applicants are advised to contact the professional community early in the process. The intended main supervisor from this environment must be named in the application. The supervisor must satisfy the requirements for supervision at the doctoral level. Applications where no main supervisor has been stated from one of the faculty's institute will not be considered.


Significant emphasis will be placed on the completion time of the study. In addition, strategic assessments will be key elements in the selection process.

Salary and terms

The position as fellow code 1017 is gross gross NOK 449 400 per employee. years depending on qualifications and seniority. 2% of the statutory contribution is deducted from the salary to the Government Pension Fund.


Employment in a PhD position requires admission to a PhD program in the relevant field. As a PhD student, you are obliged to participate in an organized doctoral program within the employment period, and employment assumes that you are actually eligible for admission to the PhD degree within three months.

Employment takes place in accordance with current rules and guidelines for employment as a PhD student at universities and colleges. A contract will be signed for tenure and mandatory work.


Employment is carried out in accordance with the principles of the State Employment Act, and legislation governing the export of knowledge, technology and services. After employment, you must expect that changes may occur in the work area.


Those who are employed must adhere to the conditions that apply at all times to employees employed in the government service. Workplace shall be at one of the institutes at the Faculty of Humanities. Those who are added must be present at and accessible to the institution.

Applicants in artistic development work can also attach up to five relevant examples of artistic activity
Through the attached project description, applicants must demonstrate high scientific or artistic potential. The project description is the most important element in the evaluation of the applicants. It will also be crucial that the project can be completed within the standard 3 years of the PhD program, where ½ years is set aside for the education part of the program.


The candidate who is hired undertakes to complete the PhD study within the appointment period and the current resource frame. The applicant must therefore make it probable that they will have access to the necessary equipment and infrastructure for the implementation of the project. Scholarships at the Faculty of Humanities are awarded up to NOK 150,000 in operating funds for the completion of the project.
