Position Summary

Indiana University East invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in Communication Studies in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to begin August 1, 2023. This position also serves as Coordinator of Public Speaking. We seek candidates committed to high-quality college teaching. The ideal candidate will have preparation and experience related to teaching beginning and advanced undergraduate courses, such as Public Speaking, Introduction to Communication and Culture, and other courses based on faculty expertise and department needs. Candidates are expected to design innovative seated and online courses and contribute to expanding students’ unique experiences. The teaching load is 4/4 during the academic year, with the possibility of summer teaching, dependent upon department needs. 

Candidates for all full-time positions must demonstrate a strong desire to excel in teaching and provide ongoing support for student success, in and out of the classroom. Some experience in developing and teaching online courses is preferred. 
 
While online teaching is an essential aspect of our programs, regular presence on campus is important to our mission, and is therefore expected.  H-1B visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
 
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities of Lecturer
·       Area of specialization:  open  
·       Teach online and face-to-face introductory and advanced Communication courses such as Public Speaking, Advanced Public Speaking, etc. 
·       Serve as Coordinator of Public Speaking responsible for the introductory Public Speaking course (directing the work of adjunct instructors, maintaining online course shells, ordering textbooks, coordinating assessment, and managing the Communication Center).
·       Participate in service activities, including at the department, college, school, and university levels. 
·       Communicate subject matter clearly, correctly, and effectively. Use methods, materials, and technology appropriate to the subject matter.
·       Manage the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school and campus academic policies.
·       Demonstrate the ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse populations within the university and community.

Basic Qualifications
Required Qualifications
·       Master’s degree or higher in Communication or related field 
·       Online teaching experience
·       Familiarity with best teaching practices in public speaking
·       Commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching 
 
Preferred Qualifications
·       Management or leadership experience
