Lecturer in Law - Immigration Law for a New America

Gould School of Law Faculty Los Angeles, California

USC Gould School of Law is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach an undergraduate law class, Immigration Law for a New America, for the Fall 2021 semester, from August 23 to December, 2021 (final exam period from December 8 to 15). The class is scheduled to be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00AM to 11:50AM.

Candidates should have strong legal professional backgrounds, preferably with teaching experience. The course will be taught exclusively to enrolled undergraduate students.

This course examines the structure of immigration laws that are currently enforced, the policies that immigration laws seek to advance, as well as the role the government plays in expanding or limiting immigration rights. Students will discuss the future of immigration reform as it relates to the competing goals and the role of international law. The course will examine the benefits and costs of immigration, the rights of undocumented immigrants, and the role of sanctuary cities.  Immigration Law for a New America is a four-unit required course for undergraduate students in the Law and Migration Studies Minor. It is also an elective option for the Legal Studies Minor.

This class may be postponed to a later semester if there are fewer than 6 students enrolled.
