Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Applied Political Analytics Master of Science program (APAN) and the Department of Government & Politics (GVPT) at the University of Maryland in College Park are seeking a full-time instructor and advisor specializing in quantitative International Relations and/or Comparative Politics. Selected applicant will begin teaching and advising in Fall 2023.

Instructor will teach a graduate 1-1 course load in APAN, focused on specialized analytical software and modeling techniques as well as International Relations theory. They will also teach an undergraduate 2-2 course load in GVPT, focused on 300-400 level quantitative topics and IR/CP topics. The ideal candidate will also exercise an option to teach a 3-week Winter term graduate course for APAN, as part of these subfield instructional needs.

In addition to an overall 3-3 course load, selected applicant will serve as a formal graduate advisor in the APAN program, working with 3-5 students per cohort, across 2 cohorts at any given time.

  • Quantitative experience working in applied political settings, or an equivalent.
  • Substantive experience in quantitative IR and advanced modeling.
  • Experience and interest in coding programs (e.g., Python, SQL, GIS).
  • Experience with advanced modeling techniques beyond logistic regression (e.g., time-series or hierarchical modeling) and emerging data collection techniques (e.g., natural language processing).
  • Experience teaching at the graduate or collegiate level.

The salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $72,000.
