A number of exciting opportunities have arisen in the Division of Psychology at Brunel University London for highly motivated academics to support the research, strength and teaching capacity of the University. Successful candidates will have a PhD (Senior Lecturer) or be near completion (Lecturer) in the appropriate discipline, experience of supervising research students, tutorials and practicals. It would be advantageous for applicants if they have experience in teaching British Psychological Society core curriculum content, especially in the areas of qualitative research methods, lifespan development and/or applied Psychology.

The post holder will also contribute to strengthening our research profile as we move towards the next Research Excellence Framework exercise. The post holder will be expected to have a research track record that fits well with the College research strategy of the development and strengthening of our College Research Centres. The Division of Psychology at Brunel University London primary research focus is predominantly covered by two centres of excellence - The Centre for Culture and Evolution (CCE), led by Professor David Schmitt (https://www.brunel.ac.uk/research/Centres/Centre-for-Culture-and-Evolution), and The Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience (CCN), led by Professor Veena Kumari (https://www.brunel.ac.uk/research/Centres/Centre-for-Cognitive-Neuroscience).

The applicants with a speciality in cultural evolution, including those who focus on ‘microevolutionary’ change within populations (i.e., teaching, imitation and forms of biased social transmission) or ‘macroevolutionary’ change over long periods of time (i.e., societal change, phylogenetics and gene-culture coevolution) are of particular interest to the CCE; while those with a proven track record in clinical (mental health) or forensic neuroscience are desirable to the CCN. We encourage potential applicants to contact the centre directors for an informal discussion.

We are proud of the exceptional development structure for early career academics at Brunel University London. Under Brunel’s Academic Life Cycle policy, the appointment to Lecturer will be subject to a two-year probationary period (with associated support in teaching duties) followed by a two-year development period.
