The department hosts a diverse and internationally renowned group of academic economists. The current core strengths are behavioral economics, development economics, environmental economics, financial economics, health economics, and labor economics. The behavioral economics group consists of researchers whose work focuses on the foundations of economic decision making with a focus on cooperative behavior, subjective well-being and valuation of non-market goods. Members of the group have recently published in high ranking general journals such as American Economic Review, Science, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of European Economic Association, Economic Journal, as well as in top field journals.


Most of the research in environmental economics concerns climate, transport, industry and natural resource management. Members of the environmental economics group have recently published in journals such as Science, International Economic Review, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and Journal of Public Economics.

Applications are welcome for a two-year post-doctoral position in Environmental Economics, Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. The Environmental Economics Unit is an exciting and dynamic research group with a large number of projects on environment and natural resources. The focus of our work is on policy instrument design or valuation. We work closely with behavioral, experimental and development economics.



Job assignments

The position mainly involves research, but there may also be some teaching/supervision assignments (max. 20%). The research is on environmental economics, with a focus on empirical evaluation of environmental policies in agriculture, biodiversity and chemical management. It is co-funded by the research program BECC on climate change - particularly forestry and land use (, and by the FRAM Centre for Future Chemical Risk Assessment and Management Strategies at the University of Gothenburg ( The candidate is expected to contribute to the research within BECC and FRAM, and to participate in research meetings, seminars and conferences. We expect candidates to aim at publishing in leading or highly ranked journals. There will be funds available for travel and shorter visits to other universities, as well as support for conducting empirical studies.




Applicants should hold a recent PhD in economics. Previous research in environmental policies in agriculture, biodiversity and chemical management is highly valuable. The applicant who, in the overall assessment of skills and potential, is deemed to be best suited to carry out the identified job assignments will be selected for the post. Research potential will be our key selection criterion, with a particular emphasis on the degree of progression and forward-looking aspects of the research. The applicants’ skills in collaborating internally, externally and in an interdisciplinary context will be given weight. International education and experience is also valuable.


Qualified is the person who masters English in speech and writing.




The employment as Post-doctor is a temporary employment during 2 years with an extent of 100 % of full time, located at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. Starting date is September 2019.
