The Centre for Population, Family and Health (CPFH) is seeking to fill the following full-time (100%) vacancy: CPFH Post-doc Challenge – Win one year of Post-doc time at our research centre Position What is the Challenge about ? Imagine getting post-doc time from us. Post-doc time with the sole obligation to prepare a post-doc proposal to apply for – and ideally obtain – your own research grant. The Centre for Population, Family and Health of the University of Antwerp is launching a competition to attract talented PhDs in the Social Sciences who want to pursue their careers at our research centre. For this challenge, you will write a scientific essay describing a policy-relevant problem that urgently needs to be researched. The problem also needs academic attention from a European comparative perspective and touches on issues related to social demography, family sociology and/or the sociology of health & illness. You document the problem with an empirical analysis, preferably in a comparative perspective. When elaborating the essay, you pay particular attention to issues of gender and/or social inequality. The winner's essay will be submitted to Population Europe for publication in their Policy Insights series. This call is situated within an initiative from the Research Fund of the University of Antwerp funding successful research groups to host a competition to attract post-doctoral researchers for a period of one year with the goal to write a successful application to FWO or Marie-Curie. What do we expect from the winner during your appointment as a CPFH post-doc? The only thing we expect from you is to prepare a project proposal for the FWO (the Flemish Science Fund) Post Doc program and the Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Post-doc program. Profile You hold a PhD in Social Sciences, preferably in Sociology, Demography, or another social science; You have published in international peer-reviewed journals, preferably in the wide area of Sociology or Demography; You show your writing skills and analytical talent in an essay of 2 to 4 pages (see participation requirements); You comply with the FWO Post Doc and Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Post-doc eligibility criteria:Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy. You hold a PhD by thesis or a degree or a diploma or certificate recognized as equivalent in accordance with European Union directives or a bilateral agreement, Your PhD was obtained not longer than 3 years before October, 1^st 2025, Your PhD was obtained before the start of the appointment in our research centre, You have not yet benefited from a FWO Post-doc grant, nor a Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Post-doc grant, You have not applied earlier for any of these two fellowships, You must have a maximum of eight years’ experience in research, from the date of the award of your PhD degree, years of experience outside research and career breaks will not count towards the above maximum, nor will years of experience in research in third countries, for nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who wish to reintegrate to Europe. What we offer We offer a full-time Post-doc position for a period of one year for candidates that have not worked in Belgium for the past two years OR a part-time Post-doc position for a period of one year otherwise; As postdoctoral scholarship holder, your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for postdoctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP). As postdoctoral researcher, your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale for a principal research fellow in the Contract Research Staff category (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP). You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, a group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
