The Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies at Stockholm University is the largest archaeological environment in Sweden and is since 2006 appointed leading research area at Stockholm University. It consists of seven sections: Archaeology, Archaeological Research Laboratory, Osteoarchaeological Research Laboratory, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, Stockholm Numismatic Institute, Centre for the Study of Cultural Evolution, and Centre for Palaeogenetics. Project description The position is at the Archaeological section which carries out teaching and research within the whole chronological field of archaeology, from the Stone Age to the present, with main focus on the Nordic area and the rest of Northern Europe. Main responsibilities The position is mainly directed towards research and initiations of externally financed research projects. In addition, the holder is expected to participate in teaching and supervision of students (maximum 20 %) on basic and/or advanced levels. Qualification requirements Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree in a relevant area or an equivalent foreign degree. Assessment criteria The degree in archaeology or similar area should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar. In the appointment process, special emphasis will be given to research proficiency demonstrated through the applicant’s own original research and scientific publications. Great emphasis will also be given to the proposed research plan. Furthermore, experiences in initiating, planning and managing research will be considered. The applicant must have proven ability to cooperate with colleagues and otherwise be suitable to fulfil the position. Knowledge in Swedish or another Scandinavian language is also a merit. Terms of employment The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2021-05-01 or as per agreement.
