Professor and Chair of the Knowledge, Technology and Innovation Group (KTI)

We are looking for

An innovative and inspiring scholar in the field of science, technology and innovation studies to join our faculty and lead the Knowledge, Technology & Innovation Group at Wageningen University & Research.

The Knowledge, Technology and Innovation Group (KTI) studies processes of socio-technical innovation and transformation. The Group examines how innovation is organised, and how it is supported and mediated by different kinds of organisations, intermediaries and innovation policies. The research and education of the chair group focus on the local and global challenges that are central to the domains of Wageningen University & Research, such as food insecurity, poverty and inequality, health hazards, environmental degradation, climate change, and resource scarcity. Current intersecting research lines are: (1) making knowledge work; (2) configuring technology and society; and (3) co-designing responsible and sustainable innovations. The Group is composed of 10 tenured and tenure-track scientific staff, 1 lecturer, 2 guest researchers, 6 postdoctoral researchers and around 30 PhD candidates.

KTI is part of the Department of Social Sciences within our University. The Department provides social sciences research and academic education on the domains of Wageningen University: food, environment, health, and agriculture. With its emphasis on knowledge, technology and innovation, the Group is well positioned to collaborate with other social and life sciences groups. The KTI Group participates together with the Philosophy Group and the Strategic Communication Group in the section Communication, Technology & Philosophy.

As head of the KTI Group, the new chair holder will lead a vibrant and collaborative team with a strong international orientation. The chair holder will support the group's research ambitions by further strengthening its position in national and international networks, by managing its internal processes in a constructive and cooperative way, and by strengthening the established research lines as well as bringing novel ideas. The successful applicant will play an active role in the Group’s education programme and will provide a supportive working environment to academics at different career levels. Strengthening the acquisition of external funding for research and attracting PhD candidates are key elements of the chair holder’s responsibility.

We ask

  • Holds a PhD degree in Science and Technology Studies, Innovation Studies or any other relevant Social Sciences discipline;
  • Has an established reputation in science, technology and innovation studies, reflected in high quality and internationally recognised publications;
  • Enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment and has experience in connecting social and life sciences disciplines;
  • Has a vision for future research and education on knowledge, technology and innovation in the Wageningen University & Research domains of food, health and environment;
  • Demonstrates an ability to lead research in a group where diverse theories and methodologies are used;
  • Possesses a proven capacity to acquire, lead and manage externally-funded research projects;
  • Enjoys managing professionals and demonstrates an inspiring, collegial, and unifying leadership style characterised by the passion to develop people, build teams, and create synergy;
  • Is an inspiring educator and PhD supervisor, with a proven ability to design and innovate teaching methods;
  • Is committed to achieving societal impact and to interacting effectively with societal partners in research and education.

You will be working for an international oriented organisation with research projects all over the world. We offer you a challenging position as full professor and chair of Knowledge, Technology and Innovation. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a number of additional benefits, such as an end-of-year- extra month’s salary, a holiday allowance and a pension plan with the Dutch pension fund for government and education.
