Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties

 

Research Fellow - Extractive Hubs (two posts)

Fixed-term until March 2021

 

We are looking for two Research Fellows to join our full-time, on-campus team within the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), School of Social Sciences, at the University of Dundee.

 

The Research Fellows will be part of a new team established to carry out applied research as part of an externally funded project aimed at assisting development policy in the ‘extractives’ sector, a key sector for growth in many developing countries. The project is called the Extractives Hub (www.extractiveshub.org). The extractive industries consist of any coordinated activities aimed at transforming natural capital such as metals, minerals, oil, and natural gas, for social uses.

Summary of Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  Skills

Essential

- Proficient in Microsoft Office software package, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, etc;

- Strong grasp of English language with excellent written and verbal communication skills;

- Excellence in both academic and non-academic writing;

- Experience of working in a team environment;

- Excellent communication, time management, interpersonal and organisational skills;

- Experience of working with external partners (international team, government/public sector);

- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;

 

Qualifications

Essential

 

- Master’s degree or above in areas related to extractive industries governance, extractive industries-led economic development, international development, economics, or extractive industries management;

- Ability to undertake applied, actionable, research without or with minimal supervision;

- Relevant research/work experience in the extractives or international development sector;

- Experience of developing materials for research / donor grant application; and

- Excellent publication record.

 

College / School / Directorate Information

If the successful candidate does not have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant area, appointment will be made to Training Grade 7 (currently £28,660 - £31,302).
