Senior Lecturer in Social Science
The University of Jyväskylä, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy is currently seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Social and Public Policy, starting from 1st of February 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The position will be located in Jyväskylä, Finland. Tasks and qualifications The core areas of research and teaching in Social and Public Policy at the University of Jyväskylä are national and international social and employment policies, EU and immigration policies, sustainable development, aging and care, and social problems and inequality. In addition, the perception and understanding of technological mediation in social and societal actions, and the evaluation of international integration and interaction are emphasised in teaching and research. The Senior Lecturer is expected to teach and supervise in the Degree programme of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the bachelor’s and master’s level studies, especially in the field of Social and Public Policy. The candidate is required to have a relevant doctoral degree, evidence of academic research work in the fields described above, the ability to provide high-quality research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the candidate’s international networking and the ability to acquire external research funding are taken into consideration when reviewing their merits. Diverse methodological knowledge and teaching experience are also considered as merits. The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to the Finnish law, a non-native teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. In this position teaching is conducted mainly in Finnish, therefore an excellent command of Finnish is required. The selected person is expected to have a good command of English as well, and previous experience of teaching in English is considered as a merit. The Senior Lecturer’s salary is situated on the job demands levels 5–7 according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. The monthly salary will be approximately 3 300 – 5 000 EUR (gross income, excluding holiday bonus) depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
