The Department of Sociology and Work Science has approximately 120 employees, including teachers, researchers, PhD-students and administrative staff. The Department carries out research, teaching socialte outreach work in a number of areas. Key research areas include the labour market, working life, social deviance, digitalization, emotions, gender, migration, environmental issues, social movements, governance and organization as well as science and technology studies. Courses are offered fields as sociology, work science, human resource management, criminology and social psychology. The Department also contributes extensively to educational programmes at the University, particularly in teacher education. Furthermore the Department collaborates with various partners in the private and public sector, for example through the Centre for Global Human Resource Management (CGHRM). Job assignmentsThe tasks are focused on teaching and research in the area of work science. The job involves teaching in undergraduate education (first and second cycle), supervision of undergraduate and graduate dissertations, participation in subject and courses development as well as pedagogical development work, development of personal skills and research, collaboration and communication with the surrounding society, as well as teaching administration and additional administrative tasks. Teaching will be conducted in both Swedish and English. Swedish is an essential requirement for this position as most of the teaching within the subject is in Swedish. The main part of the teaching will be at the undergraduate and graduate level, but teaching at the doctoral level may occur. As externally funded research is an important prerequisite for the department's and individual teachers' research activities, lecturers are expected to actively apply for external funding as part of their job. In order to be considered eligible for the position of senior lecturer in sociology, the applicant should have completed a doctoral degree in sociology or hold an equivalent scientific competence, should have undergone higher education pedagogical training or haves experience that can be considered equivalent and should demonstrate pedagogical skills. The ability to teach in Swedish and English is a requirement. Applicants who do not meet the requirement regarding higher education pedagogical training may initially be offered fixed-term employment (1 + 1 year) until the eligibility requirement has been met. Thereafter, the fixed-term employment is transferred to a permanent employment. AssessmentThe eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in chapter 4, sections 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance as well as the University of Gothenburg's employment procedure and its local application at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Equal weight is given to pedagogical and scholarly proficiency.. The assessment of pedagogical proficiency will focus on planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching activities, as well as supervision, examination, course development and course coordinator responsibilities in areas relevant to the employment. Experience in teaching and research on sociological perspectives on criminology and/or social psychology will be considered a merit. Experience and proficiency in teaching in the subject must be well documented. Any authoring of teaching material/books will be considered a merit. The assessment of scholarly proficiency will particularly focus on the applicant's research in recent years, as well as their ability to independently, and in collaboration with others, initiate and conduct research in relevant areas for this position. Publications in international peer-review journals and other high quality Administrative skills will also be given weight in the assessment process, as will the ability to cooperate with the surrounding society and to effectively provide information about research and development work. The applicant's ability to collaborate with others will also be considered. EmploymentThis is a permanent position (100% of full-time) at the Department of Sociology and Work Science. Probationary employment may be applicable. First day of employment will be established by agreement.
