A Number Of Vacant Assistant Professorships At The Department Of Law, University Of Southern Denmark



At the Department of Law, SDU, Odense, a number of assistant professorships in law will be available as of 01 august 2019 or immediately thereafter by further agreement.


The department works to ensure high quality and social relevance in terms of research, education and knowledge exchange. The person(s) employed in an assistant professorship must therefore contribute to the development, strengthening and focus of the department’s research and research activities, as well as undertake teaching and supervision relating to the department’s core program activities.

Applicants should be able to contribute to research in one or more of the following areas and actively participate in research collaborations. Applicants should also be able to teach and supervise within one or more of these areas in Danish and/or English:


• Property law

• Law of Obligations

• Credit and Bankruptcy law

• International Private law and Commercial law

• Criminal law

In order to be considered for the position, the applicant must also be a match for the department’s current needs, the department’s strategy and the job tasks tied to the position. The

assessment of this is carried out by a hiring committee and is based on the applicant’s research and teaching profile, the overall evaluation, the applicant’s research plan and expected level of contribution to the department’s further development as well as the provided information and overall impression at the interview.


Those who are employed at the department are expected to show commitment and contribute to the department’s positive work environment and the continuous operation of the department.



Application, salary, etc.

Appointment to the position requires a PhD or equivalent and will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.


An application must include:


• Motivated application/ cover letter

• Curriculum Vitae

• Exam certificates

• A comprehensive list of publications which also states/shows the publications attached to the application.

• A teaching portfolio containing documentation of the applicant’s teaching qualifications as well the applicant’s visions on teaching methods and the development thereof.

• Research plan containing information concerning already planned research and publication plans.

• Up to 3 academic publications which the applicant wishes to be evaluated on. Please note that one pdf.- or docx.- file must be attached for each publication.

• If there are co-authors on a given publication, a co-author declaration must be attached in the relevant publication’s pdf file, stating the applicant’s contribution to the publication.

• The applicants Ph.D. dissertation should be attached as one of the requested publications along with the written evaluation thereof.


All non-Danish documents must be translated into English.


Application procedure

When the deadline for submitting applications is met, a number of applications (5 minimum) are selected for academic evaluation (short-listing), which is based on an overall assessment of which of the applicants best match the job description and the department’s needs.


Assessment of applications will be done under existing Appointment Order for universities. Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The selected applicants are hereafter invited to a personal interview.


According to the University of Southern Denmark’s internal guidelines, there must be at least three qualified applicants before the position can be filled.

The Department of Law is part of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, which is comprised of six departments. The Department of law currently has 50 employees divided into four research sections (Private Law, Commercial Administrative Law, International Law and Law & Society) and a secretariat. Furthermore, the department has a number of part time employees. The department seeks to secure high quality and societal relevance within judicial research, education and knowledge exchange. The Department of Law offers the traditional law degree alongside a combined HA (jur)/MSc (Econ) course. In addition, the department is responsible for the teaching of other legal subjects offered at SDU.
