Task area and operating environment


University Lecturer in Information Studies, specializing in information behaviors and / or information literacy in digital information environments, has been placed at the Faculty of Humanities, History, Culture and Communication Sciences unit at the University of Oulu.


In the Department of Information Research and Communications, there are two professors and two university lecturers, one part-time, who are permanently employed in the present assignment. In addition, the unit has postdoctoral researchers, doctoral students and project researchers. The subject is in close contact with the MSc in Science Communication with TIEMA. There are 12 major students per year in the information research. A maximum of 8 students are selected each year as minor subject students.


The research carried out in the Faculty of Humanities focuses specifically on the University's cultural identity and interaction, which was strengthened by the establishment of the Eudaimonia Research Center for Humanities at the University of Oulu. The center brings together multidisciplinary research teams as an internationally high-quality research community and offers doctoral training in humanities. The research interests of the applicant are required to fit in with this weight field. In recent years, research has focused on the following topics: 1) Health Education and Communication, 2) Information Management and Interaction, 3) Scientific Communication and Scientific Communications, 4) Evaluation Research, and 5) Research on the Social Functions of Libraries and Other Memory Organizations.


Tasks include responsibilities


It is the responsibility of the task holder to carry out high-quality scientific research, to provide high-quality research-based teaching, to supervise and supervise theses, to provide guidance, to act as a self-teacher and to manage administrative tasks related to the subject and faculty within a total working time of 1624 hours and an annual work plan. The task is focused not just on research, but also on administrative tasks related to teaching. 


Teaching teacher's teaching is based on basic, material and advanced studies in Information Studies. He also participates in the research field for conducting bachelor's theses, master's theses and doctoral theses. Excellent (native) language skills and interaction skills are essential for managing administrative tasks as well as in guidance and teaching where Finnish is working. Teaching is also possible in English.


Paying employment


The salary of a university lecturer is determined by the level 5 to 7 of the teaching and research staff of the University pay system. In addition to the specific salary component, a personal part of the pay component is paid, which is up to 46.3% of the salary per employee.




Appointing a university lecturer requires an appropriate doctor's degree, ability to provide high-quality research-based teaching and the ability to guide the theses. When evaluating the earnings of applicants, scientific work, familiarity with the field of work, teaching experience and pedagogical training, skills in using and producing different teaching resources and materials, familiarity with the use of teaching technologies and other gains in teaching are taken into account.

Good teaching skills are demonstrated by a teaching sample.


The eligibility criteria are defined by the University of Oulu guidelines that came into force on 1 January 2016.
