Your qualifications

1. Research qualifications

The department is ambitious in terms of research publications. Applicants are expected to have a well-documented and internationally highly recognized research profile with emphasis on innovative contributions in high standard, peer-reviewed publications:

•    The applicant must have produced and published a significant body of original, independent, high quality research at international level, and must demonstrate significant progression in the form of research publications, either thematically, theoretically, methodologically and/or empirically.
•    Publications may occur in journals or monographs. Publication in top and high quality political science journals or top and high quality field journals carries great weight. So do monographs published by recognized publishers.
•    Emphasis will be put on recent productivity and take into account the number of years at present academic level.
•    Applicants must demonstrate the capacity to carry out independent research with solid impact on the profession. An applicant is expected to have published sole-authored work and must document – through co-authorship declarations – substantial contributions to any co-authored publications.
•    In terms of evaluating the qualitative aspects of an applicant’s research competences, focus is on the publications submitted for assessment
•    Applicants must submit a no longer than 500 word long statement of how they see their research impact

2. Didactical/pedagogical competences and experiences, services to public authorities
Teaching and advising students at different levels is a main activity of a professor at the Department of Political Science. The Department is ambitious in terms of our teaching programme at BA, MA and PhD level.

•    A qualified applicant must have extensive experience from teaching several courses at all levels of academic teaching, inclusive of PhD supervision.
•    Applicants must submit a teaching portfolio, where didactical/pedagogical competencies are carefully documented.
•    Applicants must have completed pedagogical training at the university level.
•    It is required that non-Danish speakers within a short period (3 years as a maximum) acquire a reasonable knowledge of Danish. If necessary, the department will grant time off from teaching to attend Danish courses during the first two years of employment.

The Department of Political Science has obligations towards public authorities in terms of delivering research-based advice and contributing to studies commissioned by public authorities. Applicants who have engaged significantly in research-based services to public authorities as part of their job may have accomplished less in terms of teaching activities. Qualifications from research-based advisory activities are considered as equivalent to teaching experience. In order for research-based service to carry weight, applicants must be able to demonstrate that such experiences have been a component of their work, for instance, as a leader of and participant in large evaluations or studies commissioned by parliaments, ministries or other public agencies, and that they have produced and delivered scientific reports to public authorities.

Permanent employment as professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of the supervision course and also the course Blended Learning – Go Online provided by Centre for Teaching and Learning at Aarhus BSS. If you have not completed the courses before commencement of employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a five year period.

3. Qualifications relating to research cooperation and management, and knowledge sharing with the public
Applicants must have extensive experience in performing research cooperation, research management and knowledge sharing, possible editorial experience from professional journals or edited volumes, and possible experience with planning and running professional conferences, workshops etc. Applicants must have good communication skills and must have the ability to work as part of a team.

4. External funding
Applicants must document the ability to attract external research funding.
