The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in our Central and Northern Alberta Region located in Edmonton. The Central and Northern Alberta Region is located within the traditional lands of the First Nations and Métis peoples of Treaty 6 territory. The Central and Northern Alberta Region, established in 1974, offers a fully accredited generalist degree program at the BSW level, a MSW specializing in clinical practice, and will be admitting PhD students in 2019 to an Edmonton-based cohort as part of the faculty's PhD program. Currently 12 faculty members in the region educate and prepare approximately 300 students in both the campus-based and Community-Based Learning Circles BSW programs and the MSW program.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A clear program of research and relevant social work practice experience with a background and focus on one or more of the areas in mental health and addictions, child welfare, community development, rural and northern practice, immigration and resettlement, or other direct practice related work

  • Candidates must hold, a Ph.D. in social work or a related discipline at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter

  • A Master of Social Work degree with a minimum of two years full-time post MSW practice experience is required along with being able to register with the Alberta College of Social Workers

  • A publication record in high quality peer-reviewed journals; a demonstrated ability to attract external research

  • Evidence of excellence in teaching at a university level, using a variety of delivery methods, with an interdisciplinary approach to undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Knowledge to support and promote Indigenous models of practice and ways of knowing

  • Supervision of graduate students and contributing to the ongoing development of curriculum is also required

 

Assistant Professors will dedicate their time to teaching in our undergraduate and graduate programs, acquiring funded research and submitting scholarly works to high quality publications, and providing service at the university level and within our profession.

 

As a member of the Central and Northern Alberta Region, the candidate must be willing to engage with members of the University of Alberta and Central and Northern Alberta community partners along with providing service within the University of Calgary, Faculty of Social Work and within our profession.
