Position Description

The Museology Graduate Program at the University of Washington seeks a full-time (100% FTE, 9-month service) non-tenured  Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor. This position will specialize in museum collections and or exhibitions as they relate to new perspectives and practices in decentering white, normative culture in museums. Possible areas of focus include, but are not limited to, decolonization, cultural representation, interpretation, public history, or historical memory. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

This position will be appointed for three years, with the possibility of renewal. This position is appointed within History Department of the College of Arts and Sciences, but all courses will be taught in the Museology Graduate Program. The position involves teaching a minimum of 2 Museology courses per quarter, over 3 quarters, including chairing master’s thesis committees. The position also involves advising Museology students, and providing service to both the Museology Graduate Program and the History Department. The anticipated start date for this appointment is September 16, 2021.

Qualifications

The position requires a Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in history, art, anthropology, or another museum-related field. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years teaching at the graduate level, including course development and instruction, and including chairing master’s thesis committees. The ideal candidate will also have a minimum of 5 years professional experience in the museum field or a related field.
