Assistant Professor-FixedTermApply now Job no: 762905 Position SummaryThe person hired will work as an assistant professor with numerous roles related to research and grant support. The individual will work as a research resource who will work closely with the department faculty and the fiscal officer to develop grant proposals, manage grant awards, submit financial transactions, maintain financial records, prepare financial reports and assist with the pre-and post-award process for contract and grants. Accounting support includes submitting financial transactions such as travel reimbursements, disbursement vouchers, general error corrections, intra account transfers, indirect cost adjustments, requisitions; reconciling accounts monthly; maintaining financial files according to the university's record retention schedule; and creating financial reports for the fiscal officer, Chair, and faculty. Contract and grant pre-award support includes working as a proactive coordinator and team member to assemble research proposals; assisting with searches for new funding opportunities and communicating these opportunities to faculty; reviewing guidelines of agency funding solicitations; preparing budgets and reviewing budget justifications for contract and grant proposals; coordinating a timely proposal submission; preparing and routing transmittals; preparing MSU internal documents for grant submissions; preparing grant applications; reviewing grant applications for completeness of all required application documents; and communicating with the fiscal officer and the Chair on the status of pending grant applications and awards. Contract and grant post-award support includes communicating with other institutions to prepare and process documents for sub-awards; communicating with the Office of Sponsored Projects regarding budgets and applications; compiling and tracking indirect cost rate distribution to the department on a monthly basis; assisting faculty with progress reports for grants; supporting contract execution, account setup and activation of purchase orders: processing disbursement vouchers for sub-award payments; assisting with processing orders for supply and services; processing cost redistributions for grant awards; gathering and tracking salary and fringe information for all personnel hired on grants: creating and maintaining grant awards on the department's website; reconciling grant accounts monthly, reporting to the fiscal officer and the principal investigator for approval; assisting with project close out activities; and communicating with the fiscal officer on the status of open contract and grant accounts. Grant management services includes providing services to investigators in support of their grants including tasks such as data base management, incentive disbursement, funding opportunities, and other grant related tasks as they arise. Required DegreeDoctorate Minimum RequirementsCandidates must have a PhD at the time of appointment. This position requires knowledge of research, administration, and finances (such as designing and implementing budgets); experience in research administration desired in one or more of the research process areas of pre or post award processes, grant management, regulatory administration; experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
