The Department of Psychology at Durham University is seeking to appoint an exceptional scholar at Assistant Professor level in the field of Social Development. The post offers an exciting opportunity to join an outstanding research and teaching environment, and the successful candidate will play a significant role in establishing Durham as a world-leading centre for developmental science.


The Developmental Science group has expertise across social (including atypical – autism, Williams Syndrome), comparative, prenatal, sensory-motor and cognitive development, and benefits from unique facilities for developmental research, including immersive virtual reality and whole-body motion capture. The successful applicant will also have access to key support already in place for developmental research, including an active participant database and contacts with local parent groups and schools. Founded in 1952, the Department of Psychology is consistently ranked as one of the very best in the UK, with an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and employability of our students. The department is extremely well-equipped for research, including facilities for fMRI, TMS, tDCS, EEG/ERP, VR, eye movement tracking, and biophysiological recording. The department also has a motion capture lab for analysis of visuomotor action and experiments in immersive VR, as well as setups for psychophysics including an echo-attenuated chamber. The department benefits from full IT and mechanical research support from departmental technicians.
