The Department of Education and Training Sciences in the Faculty of Social Sciences together with the Department of Linguistics is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Education Sciences

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of research methodology applied to speech Intelligibility measurement. The project concerns the potential use of comparative judgement to measure intelligibility of children and expanding the statistical methods behind analysing comparative judgement data with a focus on Bayesian modelling.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for EduBROn and CLiPS.

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in Statistics, Education Sciences, Linguistics or Psychology, or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • Sophisticated knowledge of research methodology and statistical analyses are required, as well as knowledge of (statistical) program languages (e.g. R and/or Python) is highly recommended
  • Knowledge of speech production, children’s language acquisition achievements are highly recommended
  • You have a passion for doing scientific research
  • You fluently speak and write English and/or Dutch

What we offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for another two years.
  • The planned start date is 1 October 2021, 1 November 2021 or 1 December 2021
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will do most of your work at the City Campus in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
