The Centre for Social Impact (CSI) was created with the purpose of being the catalyst for positive social change, to help enable others to achieve social impact. CSI achieve this through transformational research and education that is rigorous and purpose-driven. CSI create tools, solutions and leaders that enable change. CSI is a collaboration of UNSW Sydney, Swinburne University of Technology, The University of Western Australia. CSI was established through the generosity of the Australian government, four founding corporate supporters and four philanthropic contributions.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Academic Director, the Education Director will provide leadership to CSI’s education program which consists of undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education. You will be responsible for leading the teaching staff and the management of a multimillion-dollar revenue stream. You will provide a high level of academic and professional oversight to the planning and design of CSI’s undergraduate and postgraduate courses and programs in alignment with University and UNSW Business Schools strategies. In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, you will contribute to the development and delivery of the CSI strategy and operations plan. Through the development of relationships across the University, you will identify opportunities to engage with other Faculties and increase the educational footprint of CSI. Utilising your understanding of how research feeds into and influences teaching & education, you will lead the continuous development of programs and courses to ensure all education offerings are alighted to best practice.

About the Successful Applicant

You will be an energetic leader with a strong background in Social Impact, who possesses an outstanding track record of driving innovation, bringing together multiple stakeholders to achieve common goals. Entrepreneurial in style, you will be passionate about education and community engagement. Diplomatic in your approach, you must have strong skills in relationship management and understand research driven teaching. The proven ability to mentor and motivate a diverse team to achieve a high-performance culture, develop future leaders and manage under-performance will also be critical to your success.

Additionally, you will have the following skills & experience:

  • A PhD in a field related to Social Impact.
  • An internationally renowned scholar and educator in a discipline relevant to CSI with an understanding and appreciation of the values and roles of a major research university operating in an international context.
  • A strong scholarly track record in Social Impact, demonstrated by high quality publications and research grants.
  • A demonstrated understanding of education funding models and curriculum design, including the ability to design and manage high quality academic education programs.
  • Capacity to articulate a strategic vision for the Centre’s education program and the ability to lead and manage staff at a range of levels to achieve this vision. A strong, proactive, and energetic leader with extensive management skills, who can effectively supervise and motivate high performance from diverse groups of people across the Centre.
  • Strong teaching skills and evidence of outstanding teaching quality, preferably with experience teaching courses at postgraduate and undergraduate levels and executive education, on subject matter within the social impact field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a constructive and collaborative way with eminent academics and other stakeholders to develop and support sound relationships in a university environment.
