Position Summary

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) at Indiana University Bloomington School of Education seeks applicants for a tenure-track, open-rank position in our nationally recognized educational leadership (EL) program. The EL program has a deep commitment to social justice, high quality research, and the preparation of exemplary leaders in education (see https://education.indiana.edu/programs/educational-leadership.html). The educational leadership program offers degrees at the Master’s, Ed.S., Ed.D., and Ph.D. levels, as well as offering licensure for special education, building, and district leaders. We offer certificates in Improvement Science and Education Law. We also have formal collaborations with other units in the university, including the Maurer School of Law (J.D. Minor in Education Policy). In addition, we have strong collaborations with school districts and professional associations.

We seek outstanding candidates with research and teaching interests related to one or more of the following specializations: school law, school or district leadership, school/community collaborations, social justice leadership, or ethics. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research on issues pertaining to education law, educational leadership; to teach leadership, law, and other courses in the doctoral, master’s, licensure, and certificate programs; to direct doctoral dissertations; to advise graduate students; and serve in program leadership capacities.

Basic Qualifications

Interested candidates should possess the following qualifications:
Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate (Ed.D., Ph.D. and/or J.D.) in education, educational administration, or a related field by July 31, 2022
  • An established research agenda as evidenced by scholarly publications
  • Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • For candidates considering advanced rank:
  • Evidence of effective teaching in a masters or doctoral program
  • Evidence of mentoring and advising experience with masters or doctoral students

Expertise in quantitative, qualitative, legal, and/or mixed research methods
Previous success securing external research grants and contracts
Evidence of engagement with national, state, and district leaders
Experience supporting Ph.D./Ed.D. students and dissertations
Capacity to serve in one or more program leadership roles
Experience with alternative course delivery (e.g., online, hybrid)
