About the position

At NTNU, Department of Sociology and Political Science, a temporary fellowship in Sociology / Political Science is available for the research project "In the shadow of the welfare state: Living conditions for the transnational precariat" for a period of four years. This is an educational position that will give promising research recruits the opportunity for professional development.

The subject area for the position is sociology, and it is linked to the institute's research group «Migration and mobility». The project is rooted in an international research network on transnational migration, social inequality and health and living conditions, and the research fellow will contribute to the further development of the network through his research project.

The position has one year's work duty.

The scholarship position is linked to the research group "Migration and mobility" and the project "In the shadow of the welfare state: Living conditions for the international precariat".
The fellow's project will study living conditions for transnational migrants in professions that are characterized by precarious working conditions (eg low income, high health burdens, temporary and precarious working conditions, and low social status) and these migrants' relations with the welfare state. The project must have an explicit international comparative dimension.

It is assumed that the fellow participates in international activities, including through longer stays at foreign educational institutions.
The position has one year's duty to work, and it is expected that the fellow can contribute with teaching and guidance within the department's field of study as part of the work obligation.

eligibility Requirements

Fellow: The position of fellow is the main goal of qualifying for work in research positions. The qualification requirement is a completed master's / master's degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background in sociology or political science or equivalent education which is equivalent to B or better compared to NTNU's grading scale . Applicants without letter grades from previous studies should have an equally good academic foundation. Applicants with a poorer background may be considered if it is documented that the candidate is particularly suitable for a PhD program. Candidates who are in the final phase of their master's degree can apply and will be considered, but cannot be hired until they have completed the master's degree.



We refer to the Regulations on conditions of employment for positions as postdoctoral fellow, fellow, scientific assistant and specialist candidate for general criteria for the position.

Other demands:

Good oral and written ability in Norwegian and / or English
The quality of the project sketch (about 5 pages).
Research-relevant experience of 1-2 years duration, such as publication and participation in research projects, is an advantage.

Personal qualities such as independent, structured, enterprising, cooperative, and motivation to contribute to a good working environment will be emphasized.

Salary and terms

The position as fellow code 1017 is gross gross NOK 479 600 per employee. years depending on qualifications and seniority. 2% of the statutory contribution is deducted from the salary to the Government Pension Fund.

The employment period is 4 years. Included in this is one year's work duty. Employment in a PhD position requires admission to a PhD program in social science, social science or political science. As a PhD student, you are obliged to participate in an organized doctoral program within the employment period, and employment assumes that you are actually eligible for admission to the PhD degree within three months.
