Full Professor and Professor with Special Responsibilities (MSO) in Systematic Theology (Dogmatics, Ethics and Philosophy of Rel
University of Aarhus, Department of Culture and Society

The School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University, invites applications for a full professorship as well as a five-year professorship with special responsibilities (“Professor MSO” in Danish), both within the field of systematic theology. Both positions are available from 1 August 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Whereas the full professorship is a permanent position, the MSO professorship is temporary for a period of five years, upon which the employment contract may be extended up to a maximum of eight years in total. On expiry of this period, the MSO professor will be offered employment and remuneration as an associate professor.

Applicants must state clearly which of the two positions they are applying for. If an applicant wishes to apply for both positions, two applications, one for each position, are required.

The position is located at Jens Chr. Skous Vej 3-7, 8000 Aarhus C, Denmark.

The deadline for applications is 1 September 2019.

The university wants its staff to reflect the diversity of society, and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of their personal background.

The positions

The positions are being offered within the broad field of systematic theology, as we seek to attract top-level candidates who can contribute to the further development of the thriving research and educational environments at the Department of Theology. At Aarhus University, systematic theology encompasses three disciplines: dogmatics, ethics and the philosophy of religion, and global theology (mission theology). We welcome applications within each of the three fields, though currently there is a special interest in applicants whose research field is within ethics and the philosophy of religion.

The full professor is expected to ensure academic quality at the highest international level in both research and teaching, as well as providing academic leadership pertaining to research, education, talent development and the dissemination of knowledge within the fields of dogmatics, ethics and the philosophy of religion, or global/mission theology. Furthermore, the full professor must ensure the ongoing academic development of the Department of Theology, nationally and internationally. A strong devotion to and experience of talent development and nurturing of scholars as well as capacity building in collaboration with international partner institutions are required. Applicants for the chair of full professor must submit a research plan and present an outline of how they envision enacting and accomplishing the tasks required in relation to the existing profile of the Department of Theology and the School of Culture and Society.

The MSO professor is expected to possess qualifications similar to the full professor, albeit with less emphasis on talent development. The position is intended for researchers to carry out specific projects or develop particularly promising and innovative areas of research within the designated time frame of five years. Applicants for the MSO professorship must formulate a distinct vision for their research field within dogmatics, ethics and the philosophy of religion, or global/mission theology. This must include a research plan to show how the applicant aims to achieve his or her goals within the time frame of five years.
