The Opportunity


The School of Social Sciences at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia seeks applications for a continuing appointment as Lecturer in Human Geography with expertise in corporate sustainability management. The School of Social Sciences is recognised internationally for its quality education, innovative research and international engagement.

Monash has six globally networked campuses and international alliances in Europe and Asia. The appointment will be based at the Clayton campus in Melbourne. Since the inception of Geography at Monash 50 years ago, the discipline has produced some of Australia’s leading researchers and policy makers in climate and environmental change, land and water management, urban and regional economic development, and political ecology and international development. Our current staff and students are engaged in teaching, research, analysis and actions that promote sustainable business practices and the sustainable use and management of natural resources, landscapes and built environments, and sound population and migration policies. Our teaching activities are concentrated in the areas of Environmental Geography, Population Geography, and Development Geography. Our current research activities focus on environmental governance and sustainability transitions; sustainable business models, and corporate sustainability; urban diversity and international migration governance; and political ecology of development.


Applicants demonstrating potential and achievement in core fields of research and teaching in Human Geography will be highly regarded. Strong skills in corporate sustainability management are mandatory. Preference will be given to those with expertise in the geography of environmental sustainability and business sustainability.

The position is full-time; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
