Position description

The Department of Art History at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for part-time Non-Senate Faculty positions with primary responsibilities in teaching upper division courses in Art History for academic year 2022-2023. Base salary per course is $7,806.88. The service dates are for Fall Quarter 2022 (Service Dates: 09/19/22 - 12/09/22. Pay Periods: 10/01/22 – 12/31/22.) and Spring Quarter 2023 (Service Dates: 03/29/23 to 06/16/23. Pay Periods: 04/01/23 – 06/30/23).

We are looking for applicants to teach the following courses in the Fall 2022 Quarter:

ART HIS 185. Topics in Visual Studies
Interdisciplinary topics on the cultural analysis of visual artifacts and practices. Subject matter of this topics varies course should focus on pre-modern and contemporary monuments, architectural structures, and landscape in the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East.

ART HIS 198. Advanced Seminar: Topics in Art History
Discussion and report-oriented seminar with emphasis on reading, writing, and thinking about problems in art history. Subject matter of this topics varies course should focus on the interconnected histories of abstract artwork and scientific experimentation in Los Angeles/Southern California over the second half of the twentieth century.

We are looking for applicants to teach the following course in the Spring 2023 Quarter:
ART HIS 140B. Topics in Contemporary Art
Selected topics exploring artistic movements, artists, and/or issues in contemporary art from 1945 to the present. Examples include Junk Art, Countercultures, Art and Politics Now. Works of art are studied as cultural, social, and political practices. Highly preferred: a course on the interdisciplinary approach from the environmental humanities.

Requirements: Applicants must have a Masters degree in Art History or a related field completed by June 30, 2022. PhD degree in Art History or related field is preferred.

Indicate the candidate’s teaching experiences to date, including experience with teaching undergraduates/graduate students, or other populations, as well as their areas of interest. This should also include mentorship that they have given to others in the line of research or outreach activities. Detail the candidate’s teaching approaches and philosophies, as to how they will engage in effective teaching strategies.
