About the Role

The School of Politics and International Relations and the Mile End Institute are pleased to announce that we are seeking exceptional scholars to take up the position of Lecturer in British Politics.

The postholder will contribute to the intellectual life of the School, Institute, Faculty and University and the wider research field of British Politics. They will work with a diverse community of colleagues and students to deliver excellent teaching research and engagement. The postholder will play an active role in developing and delivering the activities of the Mile End Institute.

About You

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in Political Science/Public Policy or relevant Social Sciences/Humanities area /relevant professional qualification and / or equivalent professional experience and must have a developing reputation for internationally excellent research and an established record of high-quality publications. You will have proven ability to undertake public engagement activities.  You will contribute to teaching and convening modules in the relevant areas, offer research supervision and contribute more broadly to teaching and research within the School. You will have an understanding of the opportunities and challenges involved in teaching a diverse student cohort.

About the School

The School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) is a vibrant, collegial intellectual community including scholars from a range of disciplinary and methodological perspectives. It is home to a highly diverse cohort of students and offers a broad-ranging and methodologically plural curriculum in the fields of Politics and International Relations. The Mile End Institute, jointly led by SPIR and the School of History in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, brings together academics, politicians, policymakers, and the public to discuss and debate the major challenges facing the country in a fast-moving and ever-changing world.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus. It is full time permanent appointment with an expected start date of 1st September 2022. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £43,069 - £45,479 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
